CBPA Business Projects: The User, Payer and Approver May Be Different People

A service can interest its users while still requiring someone else's permission or payment decision. Separating roles helps students understand why one positive conversation does not establish full adoption.

Name roles before collecting claims

In a fictional school service, students may use the tool, a school department may control the budget, and a staff member may approve access. One person could hold several roles, but that should be established rather than assumed.

A user's enthusiasm does not automatically confirm budget availability or permission.

Match questions to decisions

Ask users about the task and current difficulties. Ask the relevant authorised role about approval conditions. Budget questions require the person who actually knows or controls that decision.

Do not collect sensitive information unnecessarily or treat a student's guess about school policy as an official answer. Follow school permission requirements for real research.

Show the gaps transparently

A role map can record known information, its source and unresolved questions. It is more useful than a single box labelled everyone because it identifies which assumption needs checking next.

This original example teaches general business reasoning, not an official CBPA template or completed submission. Students should develop their own project evidence and consult current organiser requirements for participation and permitted support.
