CBPA Project Skills: Test One Assumption with a Small Prototype

A prototype is useful when it answers a specific question. A polished screen alone does not establish that people need a service or will pay for it. Begin with the uncertainty you want to reduce.

Choose one observable task

For a fictional school booking service, ask whether a user can identify an available slot from a simple mock-up. Define completion as selecting the correct open slot without an extra explanation from the designer.

This is narrower than asking whether the whole business will succeed. Use school permission and appropriate participation arrangements before involving real students.

Record what actually happened

Write down the task, the version shown, observed difficulties and any assistance provided. If a designer points to the answer, record that help instead of counting it as unassisted success.

Positive comments can be informative, but they are not the same as completing the task. Separate a participant's words from your interpretation.

Limit the conclusion to the test

A small usability test may reveal confusing wording or navigation. It does not by itself measure demand, price acceptance or long-term usage. Each of those needs a suitable question and evidence.

This is a general learning workflow, not an official CBPA template or a completed student submission. Consult current organiser and school requirements, keep assumptions visible and let the students make and explain their own revisions.
