Who Is BPA For? New Season Group Selection & Advancement Path & Preparation Skills Guide!

BPA (Business Professionals of America) is one of the most influential business competitions for high school students worldwide, covering business management, marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, and more. Whether you are a beginner in business or an experienced high school student, you can find a suitable track in BPA. The following guide provides a complete overview from four dimensions: target audience, group selection, advancement path, and core skills.

推荐

I. Target Audience: Who Is BPA For?

Grade Range: Students in grades 6–12

Prerequisite Requirements: No mandatory business prerequisite; beginners are welcome

Core Target Audience:

Students aiming for business, economics, management, or social science majors

Students interested in business, finance, marketing, or entrepreneurship

Students looking to strengthen their college application competitiveness

Students currently studying or planning to take IGCSE/A-Level/IB/AP business courses

Students who enjoy individual challenges or team collaboration

II. Group Selection: Three Tracks for Precise Matching

BPA is divided into two main directions: the Practical Subjective Group (team competition) and the Academic Objective Group (individual competition). The Practical Group is further subdivided into three sub-groups to suit students of different grades and goals:

Group Grade Language Format Global Finals Eligibility
ML Junior Group Grades 6–9 Bilingual (Chinese-English) 3–4 person team ❌ Stops at China Finals
S-Pre High School Bilingual Group Grades 9–12 Bilingual (Chinese-English) 3–4 person team ❌ Stops at China Finals
S-Classic High School Classic Group Grades 9–12 Full English 3–4 person team ✅ Only track eligible for Global Finals
Academic Objective Group Grades 9–12 Full English Individual ✅ Eligible for Global Finals

Track Selection Recommendations:

Grades 6–9 (first exposure to business competitions): Choose the ML Chinese Group, with full Chinese responses, lower task difficulty, and a focus on teamwork and an initial hands-on business experience.

Grades 9–12 (with some foundation, aiming for Global Finals): Choose the S-Classic English Group. The full-English business project is the only track that can advance to the Global Finals, making it the "golden track" for business school applications.

Grades 9–12 (strong in exams, prefer individual work): Choose the Academic Objective Group. Participate individually, complete 80 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes—better suited for students who excel in written tests rather than presentations.

III. Advancement Path: From Preliminary to Global Finals

1. Practical Subjective Group Advancement Path:

Preliminary Round → China Finals → Global Finals (S-Classic only)

Preliminary Round: Submit a complete business plan PPT + a 10-minute pitch video. Judges evaluate and select晋级 (advancing) teams proportionally for the China Finals.

China Finals (offline): 10-minute live presentation + 4-minute Q&A with judges, alongside business carnivals, venture pitch sessions, and other enriching activities.

Global Finals (S-Classic only): Overseas in-person finals, live defense, competing on a global stage—offering the highest prestige.

2. Academic Objective Group Advancement Path:

Online Preliminary Round → Offline China Finals → Global Finals (U.S./Asia venues)

Preliminary Round: 60-minute online objective test, 80 single-choice questions, total score 400 points (5 points for correct answers, no deduction for incorrect or unanswered questions).

China Finals: Offline professional assessment + business simulation workshops.

Global Finals: Unified global academic assessment, international business forums, expos, and leadership workshops.

Building a complete business model and assessing project feasibility

Synchronizing project progress and coordinating team schedules

Conflict management and effective communication

V. Advice for Parents

Starting at a lower grade: For grades 6–9, it is recommended to start with the ML group, focusing on "experience + interest development" rather than aiming for the Global Finals. The emphasis should be on accumulating business thinking and teamwork experience.

Preparing for higher grades: For grades 9–12 aiming for business-related majors, it is strongly recommended to choose the S-Classic group. Global Finals experience serves as a top-tier endorsement for U.S./UK undergraduate business school applications.

Individual competition as an alternative: If your child is not strong in team presentations but has strong academic ability, the Academic Objective Group is a more stable choice—exam-oriented with a clear advancement path.

Start early: The BPA Practical Group requires substantial outputs such as business plans and pitch videos. It is recommended to allocate at least 2–3 months for preparation. Summer is the best time to begin.
